Your Guide to the Suncoast

Local Events & Things to Do

There is always something happening around Bradenton, the islands, and the Suncoast — festivals, live music, farmers markets, art walks, and more. I've gathered the best local event calendars here in one place so you can find your next great day out, whether you're new to the area or a lifelong local.

A quick word: wherever you end up, please support the local businesses that make this community special — the family-run restaurants, the market vendors, the shops, and the makers. Every dollar spent locally stays in Manatee and Sarasota County and keeps our neighborhoods thriving. It's a big part of what makes it worth living here.

For Veterans & Military Families

As a veteran myself, I know how much this community shows up for those who served. A few things worth knowing:

Veterans Day & Memorial Day observances — Bradenton, Palmetto, and Manatee County hold annual ceremonies honoring those who served, and VFW Post 10141 takes part. Check the area-wide calendars above for this year's dates and locations.

Free & discounted museum admission — through the Blue Star Museums program, active-duty military and their families receive free admission at The Bishop Museum and The Ringling from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day. The Bishop also offers free admission to veterans each November. Confirm current details on each museum's site.

Local veteran community — for VFW Post 10141, the Manatee County Veterans Council, and veteran resources across Manatee and Sarasota, see my full Veteran Resources guide.

Signature Events Worth Planning Around

A few local favorites that draw people from all over. Check the calendars above for this year's exact dates:

Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival (February) — a beloved celebration of our historic fishing village. Details →
De Soto Heritage Festival (spring) — weeks of events across Bradenton and Manatee County.
Bradenton Blues Festival — a downtown Riverwalk tradition.
AMI Privateers Fourth of July Parade — the island's famous water-fight parade.
BayFest on Anna Maria Island (October) — the island's largest street festival, on Pine Avenue.
Symphony on the Sand (November) — classical music on the beach.

Make a Day of It — and Shop Local

Half the fun of any event is what's around it. While you're out — at the parade, the market, or a downtown festival — grab a bite at a family-run restaurant, browse the local shops, and say hello to the small-business owners who pour everything into this community. They're the heart of what makes the Suncoast feel like home.

Falling in love with the area?

If exploring everything the Suncoast has to offer has you thinking about putting down roots here, I'd love to help. I know these communities inside and out — from the islands to Lakewood Ranch — and I'm always glad to talk, whether you're ready to buy or sell or just have questions.
